Tax Help for Older People (Tax Help) is a charity which provides support to older taxpayers who:
- need help or guidance to understand the tax position on their income or proposed pension,
- are uncertain of the correspondence they receive from HMRC,
- are anxious that they are paying the incorrect amount of tax.
The charity provides this support, which is free of charge, to older taxpayers (typically those over 60, but also those in their 50s considering pension options) when they cannot afford to pay for professional tax services. This is typically those whose annual income is less than £20,000 pa, but this criteria can be extended in special circumstances.
The Scheme has its own dedicated phoneline, which is open Monday to Friday between 9.00am and 5.00pm. A tax expert will be able to offer advice across all sources of income, but they cannot provide pension advice. Those providing care for members may contact Tax Help on behalf of the member.
Dedicated Scheme phoneline: 0333 207 5653 (Outside office hours, please leave a message on the answering machine and you should receive a call back during the next working day.)
Postal Address: Tax Help for Older People, Pineapple Business Park, Salway Ash, Bridport, Dorset, DT6 5DB.
